William (Bill) B. Dutton
Bill grew up in Southern California and has lived there most of his life, except for attending the University of Barcelona (Spain) and being a VISTA Volunteer in Connecticut. After graduating from California State University Northridge, he began his professional career with the American Red Cross, Los Angeles Chapter as Assistant Director of Youth Services. He later served, with much success, as Executive Director for the Glendale-Crescenta Valley and Santa Barbara County Chapters. In addition to his management responsibilities at Red Cross, Bill was also a national instructor for supervision & management for over 20 years throughout the U.S. He retired after 35 years with the Red Cross and currently is a Disaster Services Volunteer.
Bill’s love for serving the community through non-profits has stayed with him throughout his life. After retirement, he worked as the Interim Executive Director for Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) International. A 40+ year member of Rotary has provided many service opportunities both locally and internationally. Bill has been on his Rotary Club’s board 3 times, a Past President, and served as Chair & member of several District Committees. Some of his proudest accomplishments has been to receive his club’s Rotarian of the Year Award, and recently from Rotary International the Service Above Self Award (only 150 world-wide receive it each year).
Bill has been actively involved with Mayan Families for the past 7 years bringing down to Guatemala each year members from his Rotary Club and church to volunteer and help raise over $90,000 in donations. He joined the Mayan Families Board of Directors in 2019 and is its current Chair. Bill and his wife Bonnie have been married for 49 years and have three sons.
